Stinger:
Pros- With mosquito lure, killed lotsa bad insects (at first, then wouldn't zap small insects!?)- BUT!
Cons- Their electric wire grid uses square wires that QUICKLY clog up. Pretty soon it was packed solid & killing nothing!
I had to keep blowing it out ( air compressor) every couple of
days- HASSLE!

Flowtron "80!" (took puny 40 back!)-
Pros- Killed lots more bugs, because it NEVER clogs up (zaps small insects too!)!
The electric rods are straight up/down, so no cross wires to catch falling insects & clog.
Dead insects fall out the bottom- Blow clean once a month...
I used the Stinger mosquito lure, purchased at Wally World...

Cons- The only con is that the outer protective plastic cage HAD bars only about 1/2" apart (same with Stinger)- This kept larger moths... from being able to easily get in to the electric grid.
I used a large wire cutter & cut out every 3d bar- on top 2/3ds of cage- Alternating..., so cut bar was in the middle of two solid bars on adajacent side- Still rigid!

I put it on an outside timer (for when evenings cool down- Not much insect activity below 55 degrees...). Adjust accordingly.

Never hang it near a door, as their is always a 10'+ swarm of insects around it.

Try to hang it over head high, in a DRY (electric) area.

(More customer reviews)We bought this unit at a discount warehouse after not being able to swim outside without being attacked by a mob of mosquitos. We have 1 acre across from a large body of water, plus a small wooded area near the house. We figured if it did not work we would return it as the reviews I read were mixed. We gave it a week, set it about 20-25 feet from the deck and pool areas. It has been very hot and muggy with most days an evening shower yet I have had maybe 1-2 bites. Granted we are not rolling in grass or running in the woods at night, nor do I sit out wearing perfume, but for enjoying the yard, it is great-compared to previously not being able to sit out at all! Followed the directions and it is working like it says. We've had it a month now.

it does so with a bright flash and the crack of electricity.

What could be better?

True, the battery door is not particularly well secured, but it's
not a big deal.

There are actually three grids in the paddle.The two outer ones
have large mesh that allows insects to pass inside, while the
middle one uses much smaller mesh.Voltage is applied between
the center grid and both outer grids.

I haven't made an effort to poke my fingers into the grids, but it
looks like you could give yourself a shock...if you worked at it.
My advice:Don't.

(More customer reviews)There are several different versions of this product, each one for increasingly large areas.This one--the smallest--is good for up to half an acre of protection.It's the perfect size for a large patio or deck anda modest lawn.Some may not like the zapping sound interrupting theirnighttime outdoor fun, but it is probably the mostenvironmentally-sensitive way to rid your lawn and patio of bugs.The 15watts of power needed to run this machine also make it one of the cheapestbug eliminators.
One of the great things about this model isunheralded in the list of features Amazon gives.With the addition of an(included) strip of UV-activated bait, it's positively lethal againstmosquitos.We've found it to be much more effective than citronellatorches.
About the only thing that mars this otherwise excellent deviceis the need to place it in front of the area you mean to protect.Thiswould typically mean placing it away from a house, not next to it. Depending on your particular site, this can mean using extension cords,which come with their own set of safety issues.Happily, however, this isan extremely energy-efficient device, so it's definitely not going to breakyour electricity budget.
