(More customer reviews)I live in California, and I know that mosquitos are not as bad here as they are in much of the country.That being said, I had basically quit using my patio because I was tired of bites and risk of West Nile.I also dislike using nasty chemicals that eradicate all life from my yard.I sprayed my yard (10K sqft) with Mosquito Barrier two weeks ago, and have not seen a single mosquito since.I'm sold!

Mosquito Barrier is a very strong liquid garlic made from very potent garlic cloves. The garlic used in Mosquito Barrier is a very powerful variety which is much more potent than the garlic found in grocery stores (in fact, our lab people here refer to it as super garlic). Spraying garlic to keep insects away is not something new, farmers and master gardeners have been doing it for many generations.Since mosquitoes are soft-bodied insects the garlic juice can be very toxic to them in increased concentrations. The juice does not harm humans or pets or plants, but to mosquitoes it can be deadly. The odor of it chases them out of the area and they stay away - for as long as they can detect the odor. While the odor of sprayed garlic juice becomes undetectable to humans within minutes, the mosquitoes will still detect it. Mosquitoes have extremely sensitive odor sensing antennae - as high as 10,000 times better than humans. They can detect the garlic extract for much longer periods of time and will stay away from the sprayed area for up to a month and more. If the mosquitoes arent in your yard, they cant get into your house.Additionally, Mosquito Barrier, when mixed with soybean oil (available at your local grocery store) plus the water, coats any standing water in the area with a very thin film of natural oil, including some garlic oil which is present in the garlic juice. This oil suffocates the mosquito larvae which are developing in any standing water. Mosquito Barrier, unlike harmful chemicals, doesnt kill bees or butterflies and is completely safe for children, fish, birds, dogs, cats and other pets.Generally, four applications are enough for the entire mosquito and tick season. Even in the heaviest of infestations the gallon size is almost always enough for the entire year for most homes - including areas where the mosquito is the state bird.

(More customer reviews)I've recently been told that being Green is the cool thing to do. So, knowing that, I am really trying to be 'greener' in the yard this year. Organic lawn serivce, organic insect control etc. and I thought, ok, lets surround the house with an organic 'barrier' to keep bugs out #instead of the usual pest company#.

I noticed two large black ant colonies, one near the edge of the woods and another close to the house. I also noticed a tiny sugar ant colony in the walkway.

With a menacing grin, I sprikled this stuff over both areas. Waited two days. Results? Ants were just fine.

I grabbed the bag and said, "ok, suck on this" and literally DUMPED this stuff over the colonies. That should do it.

NOT! (yep, used not right there).

Went back out today (about 3 days later) and the colonies have actually gotten bigger. (I also think I saw an ant with a computer, making me think this stuff has potentially made them smarter).

To recap:

Pros: Nice bag. Has a kid and a dog on it which is nice. Smells great and indeed made me feel cool when I put it in my cart at Home Depot.

Cons: Turns ants into smarter, faster breeding machines with an undying determination to take over your yard. (And perhaps steal your wife and car).

Overall: Clearly they are making this from the leftovers at a spice factory. Good for smelling and creating a superspecies of ant, bad for doing and type of killing and/or repelling.

(More customer reviews)The science behind this product certainly sounds convincing and I gave it a shot, but the application method is far too broad to be useful.The bottle it comes in has no means for controlling the flow of product into your water stream.As a result, it comes out at whatever rate your water hose is spraying.My one bottle only covered about 500 sq ft. and I was not going slow or trying to saturate the ground and foliage.I was walking at a slow pace and sweeping back and forth to make sure all my grass and bushes got wet, but not lingering or just letting it run.I was very disappointed when the product ran out and I was only half way through my back yard.Since I didn't get the whole yard covered, I can't really say if it was effective on curbing our mosquitoes or not.I didn't notice any decline in the population.Maybe if I had gotten the whole yard sprayed?But I seriously doubt it.I think if it was going to really help then spraying half the yard would have at least made them drop off a little.Perhaps it would help to pour the product into a dial sprayer?But there are no instructions for this or to tell you what to set the dial sprayer to.Going to try geraniol next.
